Week 1-2

Project Kickoff

We have three main ideas for our project:
- Predicted Materials in the Future
- Mixing Materials and Motion of Creatures or Robots
I’m the one organizing the project, and I find it cool to use PPT slides to visualize and make notes on how the project will look.
My challenge is to bring together professionals from different courses and ensure everyone’s skills contribute effectively. Our team consists of animation and VR students, with one student specializing in visual effects. The basic structure will involve animation with AR interaction. The student from visual effects can assist us with post-production in the final presentation video.
Haha, I suppose it’s a common issue for teachers too, making sure everyone has meaningful tasks to keep them busy.
Overall,
We generate virtual plants within a mixed reality environment, offering people the opportunity to immerse themselves in a futuristic world.
Here are some slides from when we were in discussion.
First, I am thinking about how to make it real? What method we should use to reach our goal?
Here you can see the moodboard we had.

I’m the one who came up with our project idea: “Flowers in the Future Lab.” We’ll explore how fashion AI and nature intersect, focusing on textile textures in a lab setting. We’ll also look into “Nature in the Future,” including different landscapes like snowy forests and deserts.
We have some other ideas too:
- Letting you hear flower sounds and animating them with sound effects.
- Exploring nature’s feelings creatively and experimentally.
Before
Before our project switched to MR, we were working on AR interaction. Users could scan keywords and make their own virtual plants.
The AR students suggested combining visuals when scanning two things at once could create different results.
This got me thinking about a lab idea where users could scan and grow different flowers on their own.

For example, scanning keywords A and B, like soil or water, would make different flowers. It’s a fun way for users to see how keywords affect plant growth and make their own plants.

I was also inspired by an AR project, the AR advent calendar. Imagine scanning a picture in the calendar and discovering a new animation every day leading up to Christmas. It would be such a delightful experience to enjoy a surprise animation or message each day.
–
Since we only have one month to work on the project together, it’s crucial to leverage everyone’s skill sets and create something that will benefit our future careers. However, having the opportunity to experiment and learn from each other across different courses is also valuable.
Yeah, even though we had so many ideas in our first meeting, we all shared the same interest and passion for the flower project.
Why do we use AI?
We want to underline that every 3D artwork in our project is crafted by us 100% originally, reflecting our own creativity and skills. AI simply provides inspiration through keywords, but the artistic process and execution are entirely our own.
- AI allows us to simulate natural processes and phenomena more accurately, helping us create realistic and visually stunning animations of plants and flowers.
- By leveraging AI’s predictive capabilities, we can forecast future trends in materials, design, and technology, ensuring our project remains innovative and ahead of its time.
- AI enables us to quickly analyze vast amounts of data, providing valuable insights and information that inform our creative decisions and enhance the quality of our projects.
- Through AI-generated keywords and concepts, we can generate unique and imaginative ideas for our project, adding depth and creativity to our work.
- As we navigate an increasingly AI-driven world, incorporating AI into our project allows us to adapt to technological advancements and explore new possibilities in design and creativity.

Actually, we didn’t use it on purpose. It is just very natural that when you have a question, you just go to Google to search for it. The idea is just as simple as this way. We popped up an idea of future plants.
We wondered what future plants would look like. So we asked ChatGPT for help.
It’s like a really smart search engine that finds information for us. Using AI to suggest keywords at the start of our project saved us a lot of time.
Project naming
Here are some titles for our projects, we vote for ‘Tomorrow’s Plant’.

Workflow
Since I’m in charge of organizing our group’s schedule, I brought up the timeline during our first meeting. With just a month to work on the project, we knew we had to hustle and work hard.
We set up a clear plan with specific goals to make sure we stayed on track and made the most of our time.
