Final Project
This term has been an exciting journey of exploration and learning, particularly through the artefact project I embarked on. I’ve always been fascinated by branding reels, and creating one this term was a dream come true. The adorable outcome boosted my confidence, and I acquired invaluable skills in Cinema 4D, thanks to an online course by my role model, Vincent (https://www.domestika.org/en/courses/3329-playful-3d-design-and-animation-of-fun-objects). Through the course, I delved into redshift rendering and honed my skills in simulation, lighting, and texturing. Venturing into Procreate for texture painting was a first for me, and it sparked a newfound passion for creating unique artworks through experimentation with brushes and geometric shapes.
Moreover, this term marked my initiation into rigging in Cinema 4D, which I pursued through YouTube tutorials and an online course from Motioner (https://motioner.tw/courses/A0BPFWG3MRPUTGF). I appreciated the freedom to explore experimental work, as encouraged by our tutor. Embracing this spirit, I delved into TouchDesigner and aspired to master VJing for future music videos. Additionally, I embarked on a collaborative project with a music producer to create a music cover using TouchDesigner, though it’s yet to commence.
Also, I like the Vicon tool at LCC. The Vcam in Unreal Engine is amazing; using our phones as navigators to view our artwork is incredible. ( You can see the record I did here on page 4. ) This term has been fulfilling with many workshop sessions to learn different software. It’s been a great chance to learn how to use these tools together. I’ve used my skills to keep my projects running smoothly. While I prefer C4D, learning character animation in Maya is cool too. Before creating this artefact, Serra’s advice was simple: “Just Do It” when I mentioned making a branding reel. She suggested adding surprise elements and reverse shots, but I ran out of time…… Hopefully, I can make this idea a reality in the future.
After finishing this artifact reel, I’m happy with how it turned out and plan to use it for my FMP, although I’m still working on the storyboard. While tutors and classmates have noticed a consistent style in my work, I believe it might be because of my preference for certain brushes and colors. However, this term has made me realize the importance of developing my animation skills further rather than just focusing on visualization. When animating in C4D, I noticed that some movements appeared too robotic and basic. My goal for the coming months is to create animations with a more dynamic pace.
